O’Fallon-Shiloh IL Chamber of Commerce Hosts National Civics Bee®
O’Fallon, IL — History was made last night as the O’Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce, along with an upstate Illinois Chamber, became the first Illinois Chambers to participate in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce National Civics Bee®. This marks the first time Illinois has taken part in the prestigious program—not with just one, but two local competitions!
The journey began in December when 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students submitted essays identifying problems in their communities and proposing solutions. An astounding 448 students participated, with the top 20 finalists advancing to the live competition.
Representing our community in the competition were students from:
- Shiloh Middle School
- Edward Fulton Junior High
- Amelia Carriel Junior High
We are proud to announce the winners of the 2025 O’Fallon-Shiloh National Civics Bee:
1st Place: Rylee C., 7th Grade, Edward Fulton Junior High
2nd Place: Lucas K., 7th Grade, Edward Fulton Junior High
3rd Place: Kate A., 7th Grade, Edward Fulton Junior High
The top three winners received trophies and cash prizes and will advance to the state competition in July, where they will compete against finalists from four other Illinois Chambers.
This remarkable event would not have been possible without the dedication of many:
- Our incredible educators who encouraged students to participate
- The dedicated essay judges
- The Hett at McKendree University for providing a fantastic venue
- Emcee Matt Gilreath of Keep Calm and Carry
- Our esteemed judges:
- Dr. Martha Weld, McKendree University
- Matt Smallheer, The Tye-Dyed Iguana
- Dr. Laura Van Hook, O’Fallon School District 90
Join us in cheering on our top three as they prepare to represent O’Fallon-Shiloh at the state competition in July!
