Much of the farmland in the Midwest is owned by people who are not farmers. As a farm manager, Dale acts as agent for these landowners: He executes leases with farmers and with the farmers, determines the appropriate tillage, seed, fertilizer, etc. He handles all of the landowners? grain marketing, soil conservation projects, insurance, real estate taxes, and income and expense accounting.
